The photographer Julien Girardot was born in Rennes on September 28, 1979.

Based in Saint-Malo, the sea is his passion. He is a member of the international collective Sea&Co that includes 11 marine photographers. Fascinated by islands, their inhabitants, and traditional activities such as fishing, Julien Girardot also enjoys long periods of sailing the open sea. In search of faraway horizons, Julien joined the Tara Oceans expedition on January 19, 2010 in Djibouti.

After crossing the Gulf of Aden, with stopovers at Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Bombay, Male, and the isolated Saint Brandon archipelago, he disembarked in Port-Louis, capital of Mauritius, after 4 months at sea.

He joined the crew again in June 2011, in the Gambier Islands, one of the 5 Polynesian archipelagos, During the 3-month voyage, Tara made stopovers in the Marquesas, Tahiti, Moorea, Christmas Island and finally Hawaii. For the final stretch of the expedition, crossing the Atlantic from New York to Lorient, he was again part of the team.

Enlisted as cook on board, he proved to be as skilled in the kitchen as he is with a camera. His passion for photography quickly consumed all his free time on board.

His photos were featured in the Tara expedition journal. They have also been published in the magazines Ushuaia, Terre Sauvage, Voiles et Voiliers, and in the international sailing press.
