Tara’s Blue Book for the Mediterranean Sea
The Tara Mediterranean expedition in 2014 generated many collaborations with institutions and organizations working on the ecological challenges concerning “Our Sea.” In order to dialogue with these organizations during the expedition stopovers, the Tara team organized a series of meetings with local stakeholders in several different countries around the Mediterranean Basin.
The success of these meetings – called “Tara Workshops” – encouraged us to go further and tell the story – origins, trajectories, impact, and interactions – of waste plastics in the ocean, through testimonies of stakeholders along the Mediterranean coasts. More than a mission report, Tara’s Blue Book for the Mediterranean Sea is the result of meetings, onboard visits, studies and passionate exchanges on themes that affect the Mediterranean Basin. Despite the tragic humanitarian crisis of migrants currently impacting the population of the Mediterranean’s southern shore, we met motivated people wishing to work towards a healthy Ocean. After the expedition, Tara wanted to gather this treasure of information into a richly illustrated book, where interviews with scientists and experts mingle with stories from divers, sailors and ordinary citizens. Welcome aboard Tara’s Blue Book for the Mediterranean Sea!
