Dig Tara out from her icy winter tomb
We have had yet another full day of activity as we continue to dig Tara out from her icy winter tomb. Thankfully there is plenty of energy and enthusiasm in the new arrivals for this physically demanding task.
The ambience on board is one of excitement as the majority of the crew experience the high Arctic for the first time. For those of us who have already been up here for a while we are lucky to see the change of seasons from winter to summer, observing the subtle transformation of our surroundings as the sun steadily rises in altitude and the ice forms soften as the shadows shorten. Yesterday I woke to a flourishing carpet of ‘ice flowers’ in our back garden, crystal forms growing on the ice, snow and even Tara due to the increased moisture in the air.
