Discover the new exhibition “Tara: Journey to the heart of the climate machine” on the island of Nantes
Even before the schooner’s arrival in the center of Nantes, the public will have the opportunity to discover the universe of Tara by visiting a new exhibition – “Tara: Journey to the Heart of the Climate Machine” on the Ile de Nantes.
Installed in 6 shipping containers, the exhibition shows the impacts of climate change and the ecological crisis on the oceans, reminding everyone that the world Ocean, covering three quarters of the surface our planet, is the cradle of life and central to our climate. An overview of Tara’s expeditions aims at explaining how the Ocean is vital to the balance of our climate and to the health of our planet.
BOAT AND EXHIBITION OPEN TO THE PUBLIC:
- September 26to October 25, 2015: the exhibition is located on the Ile de Nantes, Parc des Chantiers, next to the Marine Worlds Carousel.
Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm – Closed on Mondays
- October 17 to October 23: the schooner Tara will be moored at the Ponton des Chantiers, next to the exhibition.
The deck will be open to the public daily for tours guided by a crew member. Every 30 minutes from 10 to 11:30am and 2 to 5:30pm.
ACTIVITIES FOR SCHOOLS
September 28 to October 14, 2015
Scientific workshops will be held in conjunction with the exhibition. Games and hands-on experiments help children learn about melting glaciers and sea ice, and the constitution of marine food chains.
Duration of visit: 45 minutes. Workshop: 45 minutes
Morning: 9:45 to 11:15am / Afternoon: 1:45 to 3:15pm

ACTIVITIES FOR RECREATIONAL CENTRES
- When school is in session:
September 28 to October 14, 2015 – the exhibition will be open on Wednesday afternoons only.
During this period, groups can take self-guided tours of the exhibition.
Wednesday afternoons: 2 to 3:45pm
- Toussaint holiday
From October 19 to 23, 2015 – exhibition and tour of the schooner TARA
During this week, 2 groups of 24 children can take a self-guided tour of the exhibit, then visit the boat accompanied by a TARA crew member.
Morning: 10 to 11:45am / Afternoon: 2 to 3:45 p.m.
