TARA MEDITERRANÉE EXPEDITION MAKES A STOPOVER AT BIZERTE IN TUNISIA
The exploration schooner Tara is on expedition in the Mediterranean from May to November 2014. This mission includes both a scientific component on plastic pollution, and an outreach program to increase awareness about the many environmental issues related to the Mediterranean Sea.
STOPOVER IN TUNISIA
After a first visit in November 2009 during the Tara Oceans expedition, the sailboat will dock in Tunisia from September 1st to 6th 2014. An exhibition and film on the treasures of the ocean, followed by a beach cleanup, conferences, and tours of the schooner for the public and school children are scheduled on this occasion at the Bizerte Marina, about 60 kilometers north-west of Tunis.
-Monday, September 1 at 2pm: Tara arrives at Bizerte Marina.
-September 2nd to 6th: the exhibition “Our Planet Ocean” will be open to the public at the Bizerte Marina.
The ocean is the cradle of life and covers three quarters of our blue planet. It is vital for the health of our ecosystems, essential for climate balance, and indispensable for the global economy. To ensure the transition to a model of sustainable development, our societies need to better understand and manage more effectively the treasures of marine biodiversity! The exhibition panels will let you discover this marine world.
-Tuesday, September 2 at 2:30pm: Media briefings will take place aboard Tara in the presence of Tara’s captain, Samuel Audrain and crew, the Governor of Bizerte Mr. Ridha Lahouel, and the Mayor, Mr. Mohamed Riadh Lazzem (to be confirmed).
-Wednesday, September 3: visits of environnemental, scientific and cultural organizations and schools in Marina Bizerte.
-Wednesday, September 3 at 5:00pm: an Ocean Initiative – beach cleanup - will also be conducted with local volunteers on a Bizerte beach. To join us, click here
-Thursday, September 4, from 9:00am to 5:00pm: A day of conferences on marine sciences in the Mediterranean at the Bizerte Faculty of Sciences. .

-Thursday, September 4 at 6:00pm: screening of the documentary Planet Ocean, 90min, directed by Yann Arthus Bertrand and Michael Pitiot at the Bizerte Faculty of Sciences
