Katia Kameli is a multimedia artist. She lives in Paris. Her multifaceted work expresses the in-between, where signs of belonging are rejected in favor of multiplicity. Her position is that of hybridity, the “third space” which makes possible the emergence of other visions, positions and shapes. This third space disturbs stories, placing them in critical condition, allowing for re-writing, a back and forth between “History” and “narrations”. The heterogeneous forms she manipulates — video, photography, installation and drawing — also participate in this shift.
Her work has found visibility and recognition in the national and international worlds of art and film including: the Centre Pompidou (2008), the French Cinémathèque (2007), the Contemporary Art Center, Tel Aviv (2008), the Anne de Villepoix Gallery (2008), Paris, Rotunda Gallery, New York (2008), Seville Biennial (2008), Manifesta 8 (2010), Cornerhouse, Manchester (2011), African Photography Encounters, Bamako (2011), the Marrakech Biennale (2012), the Dakar Biennale (2012), the Museum of Contemporary Art, Marseille (2013), Taymour Grahne Gallery, NY (2014).
Katia embarked as artist-in-residence from Algiers to Marseille during the Tara Mediterranean expedition in 2014.
