Tara’s team on land deals with various tasks: communication, advocacy and education – and there’s no shortage of work. To fulfill our mission of raising awareness among youth, particularly in schools, 3 people are now working on the educational platform of the Tara Expeditions Foundation, with the help of an advisory committee and several partners.
Brigitte Sabard is project manager of Tara’s education pole, coordinating partnerships to multiply our educational resources. She has been developing outreach programs for Tara expeditions since 2007 and leads the advisory committee that provides scientific expertise. Specialist in environmental and scientific education for over 25 years, she now applies her experience to strategic development of Tara’s education platform.

Xavier Bougeard, a biologist by training, has been involved in education on the environment and sustainable development for almost 20 years. He’s been working with Tara Expeditions for the past 6 years. Passionate about nature, science, and education for the general public, especially young people, Xavier is engaged in the Tara Junior platform – setting up a program of conferences in schools, developing special partnerships and educational tools for youth.

Pascaline Bourgain joined the team in August and is responsible for outreach to teachers. She’s been collaborating with Tara Expeditions for many years, first as a scientist on the Tara Arctic expedition, then as scientific mediator for our “In the Laboratory” program. She also directed a short film for children while aboard the schooner during the Tara Mediterranean expedition. Pascaline is now fully involved in the education team – working with teachers to help meet their needs, showcasing their productions, facilitating exchanges via the online platform. She will also be involved in teacher training.

Tara’s outreach programs are extremely diverse, yet remain close to the practical needs of classroom teachers thanks to our partners who collaborate on programs developed by teachers for teachers. In particular, teams led by Françoise Ribola of the Academy of Versailles wrote documents about plastic waste and Oceans and Climate. The Academy of Rennes provides vast academic support during Tara’s expeditions and writes the Tara Pacific “Echos d’Escale”. Last but not least, the ADEME has accompanied Tara for 10 years and is currently working on a dossier about eco-responsibility aboard Tara.
