Initiated by a French couple, the Sulubaaï Foundation aspires to make Pangatalan Island a model of sustainable development. The restoration of this small island located northeast of Palawan in the Philippines has evolved over the years into a larger project incorporating a marine protected area. In order to finance its operations, the Foundation is aiming for luxury tourism. Today, after only 7 years of operation, the Foundation is supported by the French Conservatoire du Littoral and is in the process of being recognized as the first “eco-sustainable island” in the Small Island Organization’s classification.
