Co-director of the Tara Pacific expedition, Denis Allemand is scientific director of the Monaco Scientific Centre (CSM).
Professor of biology at the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, he is currently on leave. His main area of research concerns the physiology of marine organisms (especially coral) and their use as model organisms for understanding some of the major biological processes (biomineralization, symbiosis, etc.) Co-author of more than 130 scientific articles and numerous chapters of books, Denis Allemand is a member of several scientific commissions including the Oceanographic Institute’s Albert I Prince of Monaco Foundation; the Prince Albert II Foundation; the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes; and IFREMER. He is also member of the board of directors of the Observatoire Océanologique de Villefranche-sur-Mer (CNRS / UPMC).
He was named Knight of the Order of St. Charles, of the Order of Grimaldi, and of the French Order of Maritime Merit, as well as Officer of Academic Palms.
